BOSS Ollie Cherrett reckons strength in depth can take Christchurch’s promotion bid to the next level after poaching Ringwood Town’s top scorer Matt Steer.

Steer notched 15 goals in 29 appearances for the Long Lane outfit last season but has agreed to reunite with Cherrett, his manager at previous club Merley.

And with Grant Cormack, Loyd Cole and Jacques Bernard now able to commit more time to Priory, Cherrett likes the look of a squad that will be looking to build on the club’s sixth-placed finish in Sydenhams Wessex One last term.

Cherrett told the Daily Echo: “Everyone has signed on, including Grant, Lloyd and Jacques, lads that were signed but not available for large parts of last season.

“They are going to be like three new signings and alongside Matty, it just takes that competition for places on to the next level.

“Matty was with us at Merley before he went to Ringwood. We know him well and he when called, it was a no brainer to give him an opportunity. He wants to be successful at this level and so do we so it should be a good fit.”
