BOSS Matty Holmes argued the rise of Paddy Hester had been long overdue having drafted the ex-Cherries youngster into his Wimborne Town squad.

Hester, 23, was released from Dean Court in the summer of 2012 and snapped up by the Hammers despite interest from Bashley, where he had spent time on loan.

After an unsuccessful trial at Norwich City, work commitments saw him opt for the Wessex League outfit where he featured more than 100 times across four seasons.

But having taken over at Cuthbury, Holmes was keen to call on the services of a player he had admired during his time with the Cherries Academy.

Holmes told the Daily Echo: “I’m really pleased to get Paddy. I remember him from AFC Bournemouth, particularly his time as a first-year professional.

“He played a number of reserve matches and I have always followed his progress with interest. I watched him at Hamworthy United a couple of seasons ago and always felt he should have been playing higher.

“I know his work commitments have dictated a few things in the past but it was a no-brainer for me. He’s a lovely left-sided player who can also play in central positions. He adds real quality to our squad.”
