PAUL Miller insisted Wimborne Town’s board had “no concerns whatsoever” over the club’s security of tenure at its Cuthbury headquarters.

The Magpies director, responsible for the ongoing negotiations over a move to Parmiter Drive, moved to reassure supporters after announcing that the proposed switch was unlikely to materialise until 2019-2020.

As part of a deal that would see landlords Hanham Estates allow Wyatt Homes to build on the site, the developer is set to fund a new home for the Southern League club.

Supporters concerned over the wait enquired how long Wimborne had left at their current headquarters with Miller explaining the club had continued to operate with a one-year rolling lease for a number of seasons.

But the former chairman was adamant the club would not be left high and dry.

Miller told the Daily Echo: “We have a good rapport with our landlords. It is in the best interests of the landlord and the developer to make sure this community is not left without a football club.

“I think that would be frowned upon and we do not have any concerns whatsoever. We are working very closely with the land owners and the developer.

“It is a league requirement for us to show documentation that we have somewhere to play for the forthcoming season and our landlord provides us with a rolling lease.”

Initially, it had been hoped that the new ground would be ready for next season. Addressing the delay, Miller continued: “I’m not surprised because these things take time.

“While everyone wants to move forward as quickly as possible, it will take as long as it takes. Unfortunately, it is out of our hands.

“I am pretty sure the council is working hard, I know the developer is working hard and we will have to make do with what we have until it happens.”

The planning application to build on the land which currently houses Cuthbury remains under consideration.
