MANAGER Shane Traynor has quit Hamworthy United for the second time in seven months.

Chairman Steve Harvey revealed he had yesterday received notification that the County Ground boss would be unable to continue due to increased work commitments.

Traynor temporarily stood down in October for personal reasons but always stated his intention to return and did so in December.

At the time, the club was still in the midst of a turbulent spell during which president David Manuel was forced to deny its existence was at risk with the search for a permanent chairman having proved fruitless.

Harvey returned to United in February after a brief spell on the board at Wimborne Town and publicly backed Traynor, despite a late season slump which was the team lose eight matches in a row during April.

Hammers beat backmarkers Folland Sports 3-2 on the final day but ended the campaign 16th, their joint-lowest finish in the Wessex League top flight.

But Traynor was still set to lead them into an exciting new era with a synthetic playing surface set to be installed over the summer.

“It was unexpected and certainly not part of the plan,” said Harvey.

“With the new pitch going down, we wanted Shane to help us develop the club and carry on bringing through our younger players.

Harvey hopes to talk Traynor out of his decision tomorrow.

“It causes us no end of problems but if he cannot continue, we will have to respect his decision and our search for a replacement will begin.”
