POOLE Town boss Tom Killick hailed his team's will to win after the Southern Premier champions recovered from a goal down to win at Cambridge City on the final day.

Goals after the break from Luke Roberts and converted striker Lewis Lindsay allowed the Tatnam side to seal a 2-1 victory following Buster Harradine's first-half opener.

Dolphins had already guaranteed National South football next term and Killick admitted the desire to earn three points had remained strong within the camp.

He told the Daily Echo: "I was interested to see how the game panned out given the players knew there was nothing in particular riding on it and I thought it was really positive that having gone a goal behind, there was a real determination to come back and win.

"That was really good to see in circumstances where we didn't actually need the points. It was a positive reflection of the players' mentality."

Dolphins midfielder Marvin Brooks headed against the bar before Cambridge took the lead, captain Harradine slotting into an empty net after the ball had evaded keeper Nick Hutchings.

That was how it stayed until midway through the second period when Roberts slotted beyond Zac Barrett from Lindsay's knock-down.

Moments later, Poole stopper Tom Rees replaced Hutchings for his first league appearance of the season, while under-18s ace Ryan Kelly came on for striker Richard Gillespie.

With seven minutes left, the visitors grabbed their winner. Brooks climbed well in the box and his header was tapped through Barrett's legs by the gleeful Lindsay.

The match marked Jack Dickson's final appearance for Dolphins prior to his departure across the Atlantic to pursue a university education in the United States.

Killick added: The players have got an awful lot of affection for Jack. He is a young lad who has been doing brilliantly and we wish him all the best."

Dolphins: Hutchings (Rees, 68), Tallack, Spetch, Connell (Dickson, 58), Whisken, Spetch, Burbidge, Lindsay, Gillespie (Kelly, 68), Brooks, Roberts. Unused subs: Davis, Lee.

Wimborne Town ended the Southern South & West campaign in 17th place following their 2-0 win over Yate Town at Cuthbury.

Following a minute's applause for ex-Wimborne, Poppies and Christchurch player Steve Moore, who recently lost his battle with pancreatic cancer, the match got under way.

And Magpies were quickly on the scoresheet when frontman Mark Ford struck from close range.

Minutes before half-time, Jamie Davidson headed home from a corner to double the lead and that was how it remained until the final whistle.

Will Prior – joined in the squad by fellow under-18s player Charlie Bonnington – made his debut late on when he replaced Louis Kellaway.

Magpies: O'Flaherty, Murray, Maybury, Arnold, Davidson, Lupton, Kellaway (Prior, 85), O'Sullivan, Stokoe, Ford (Leonard, 67), Bayston (Johnson, 77). Unused subs: Old, Bonnington.
