TOM Killick insists he has no problem with the historic significance of tomorrow's title decider being lost on Poole Town's players.

The Dolphins would complete a remarkable ascent from the Hampshire League to the National South should they beat Dunstable Town at Tatnam (3pm).

A return to non-league’s second tier would see Killick realise the dream he set out to achieve when he took the hotseat 12 years ago and rise above the level they competed in when they lost their home, Poole Stadium, in 1994.

Since then, Poole officials have faced sizeable challenges to ensure their headquarters meets the criteria to keep pace with on-field success but with the prize within their grasp, the manager wants minds focused on the here and now.

Killick told the Daily Echo: "The players look at the way they have had to battle to get into this position and their focus is on getting into the league above to further their careers.

"They want to play National South football, they want to be champions and that's how they see it. I understand that, it is a more simplistic view and they don't get so caught up in the historic significance.

"To me, that doesn't matter too much. It is better for them to be focused on the task at hand and let us think about the journey the club has been on."

Kettering's surprise 1-0 home defeat to Bedworth on Thursday ruled the Southern League's form team out of the race with only Redditch, Hitchin and Hungerford able to catch Poole.

Dependent on results elsewhere, the Dolphins could lift the title today even if they are defeated but Killick is keen to give what is expected to be a bumper home crowd something to cheer.

"It would be nice to do it in a match, on our terms and in front of our own fans," he added.

"Everyone can enjoy the celebrations if we do but mentally, we just have to stay clear of all that.

"Ultimately, we are just desperate to get three points because we want the whole thing done."
