POOLE Town’s Southern League title rivals Redditch United have been deducted three points for fielding two suspended players in a match they won in February.

The adjustment means Dolphins hold a six-point lead at the Premier Division summit with a game in hand on the majority of the chasing pack.

League officials also confirmed United would not exercise their right to appeal to the FA, preventing any danger of a delay to the end of the season.

A statement released by the Southern League this morning read: “Following the charge by the FA that Redditch United FC fielded two players whilst under suspension was proven, the Evostik League Southern League board discussed the matter and has advised the club of its decision.

“The board found the club guilty of fielding two ineligible players on Saturday, February 20 in a League match at St Neots Town which Redditch United won 3-1 and as a consequence the club is to be deducted the three points gained in the match and is fined a sum in accordance with its fines tariff.

“The League has received written confirmation from the club that it will not be lodging an appeal to the FA and, therefore, the points adjustment will be made with immediate effect.”

The news leaves Poole, currently on 80 points, needing three wins to be mathematically certain of the title.

Kettering, who have seven league games to fit in by April 23, could still reach 88 points but Tom Killick’s men have a far superior goal difference.

United denied breaches of the FA’s E10 rule – failure to comply with an automatic suspension – but cases against the club and players Jim Mutton and Jazz Luckie were proven.

The club was fined £250 and warned as to its future conduct by the FA, while both players were hit with £100 fines and two-match bans.
