POOLE Town manager Tom Killick insists there is no pressing need to replace Lee Wort – provided Richard Gillespie stays fit.

Killick wanted to keep loan star Wort at Tatnam for a third month but his hopes were dashed when the hitman struck twice in parent club Gosport’s 3-1 win against Eastbourne on Tuesday.

Dolphins have also received a seven-day approach from Dorchester for frontrunner Toby Holmes but Killick remains relaxed about his options for now.

Killick told the Daily Echo: “Lee was brought in due to the injury to Richard Gillespie. We are cautiously hopeful that he is getting back to full fitness and while I would have liked to have retained Lee, it was always going to be difficult to justify financially.

“As it panned out, the decision was taken out of our hands. Understandably, Alex (Pike, manager) is saying he will feature for Gosport after Tuesday.

“While we are always looking to strengthen in all positions, if Richard remains fit and Toby decides to stay there will be no urgency to go after anyone.”

On Holmes, Killick added: “He is going to speak to Dorchester and then we will talk to him. He is someone we don’t want to lose but his opportunities have been limited. We will have to see how that one develops.”

Poole, who returned to the Southern League summit with a midweek win over Dorset rivals Weymouth, entertain Biggleswade Town tomorrow (3pm).

Killick has a full squad to choose from and warned his players of the perils of dropping their standards.

“It is often the game after a big result where things can go wrong, particularly if people’s attitudes aren’t quite right,” he added.

“There was quite a lot of hype surrounding the Weymouth match so we need to make sure everyone is in the right frame of mind and not thinking that Biggleswade will be an easy touch.

“They are strong and if we think like that, we will get beaten.”
