MICKY Hubbard reckons home comforts could hold the key to Victoria Cross emulating Branksome Railway’s FA Sunday Cup exploits of two seasons ago.

Cross played out a pulsating 8-4 victory over London St Georges at Poole Town’s Tatnam headquarters to progress to the third round of the national competition.

Hotshot Shane Barney bagged four to bring to 20 his total for season, while Martin Warren, Hubbard, George Webb and Micky Finch also netted.

And Hubbard, who featured in Railway’s run to the last eight in 2014, believes Cross have what it takes to go even further with a bit of fortune.

“If you can get a home draw, you always have half a chance,” said Hubbard. “It can be a bit of a lottery because you have no idea what your opponents are like until you kick off, it’s not like a Saturday when you usually know what you’re coming up against.

“But the boys are doing well and we have a good team spirit, that’s for sure. I think if we can keep everyone fit and available and get some home draws then we are capable of a good run.”

On the match, he added: “It was a good game and to be fair, they were not a bad side, we just got on top and took our chances. They had some good chances but we were the better side.”
