POOLE Town increased to five points their lead at the Southern League summit with a consummate 3-0 home victory over St Neots.

Will Spetch, Luke Burbidge and Michael Walker were on the score sheet as the dominant Dolphins completed the double over the side that knocked them out of last season’s play-offs.

And with promotion-rivals Redditch United and Weymouth dropping points, it was a good day for Tom Killick’s men who kept back-to-back league clean sheets for the first time since September.

Wimborne Town remain precariously placed in Southern South & West after a 2-0 defeat at high-flying Banbury United.

Darius Browne and Andy Gunn netted in the final 15 minutes with the Magpies sinking to third bottom, above the relegation zone on goal difference after fellow strugglers Wantage beat Marlow 1-0.

 


Verwood Town increased their advantage over the quartet of strugglers in the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division by beating Whitchurch United – one of the bottom four – 3-2 at Potterne Park.

Bournemouth Poppies are in the thick of the scrap after losing 1-0 at home to Horndean. Brockenhurst and Hamworthy United played out a 3-3 thriller, while Lymington Town exited the FA Vase with a 2-1 defeat at Bristol Manor Farm.

In Wessex One, Chrristchurch beat Totton & Eling 2-1, Ringwood Town lost 3-2 at Hythe & Dibden and New Milton Town got hammered 6-0 at leaders Portland United.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth RFC turned over league-leaders Barnstaple 23-7 at Chapel Gate in National Three South West.

Wyn Roberts, Grant Hancox and Joe Rees got the tries to consign Barnstaple to only their second league defeat in nine matches.
