STEVE Cuss confirmed he had not had a change of heart over the managerial role at Wimborne Town and revealed how a combination of work commitments and disappointing results had been key factors in his decision to quit.

Cuss tendered his resignation after Saturday's 3-0 defeat to Slimbridge and his departure was formally rubber-stamped following a meeting of the board of directors this afternoon.

Although Cuss remains a club director, he did not attend the meeting.

Magpies chiefs had hoped that Cuss would perform a dramatic U-turn over his position for the second time this season, despite Wimborne's perilous position just above the Southern South & West relegation zone.

However, the former Poole Town assistant manager and first-team coach, who heads up Cherries' community trust, stuck with his original verdict and the club reluctantly accepted his resignation.

Cuss, who had been in charge for four-and-a-half years, told the Daily Echo: "I made the decision on Saturday and I haven't budged – it's the right decision.

"There were probably an accumulation of reasons. When you are in the manager's role it consumes your life and it's draining. As much as I love it, it was taking up a huge amount of time and I also have a day job which was getting increasingly busy.

"I'm not going to hide and ignore that results have not been as good as I would have liked. That was a factor in it. There's no doubt that if you are getting results then things look a little bit rosier.

"I've spent a lot of time on the field coaching players and I feel that they need a different voice and someone with some new ideas, so that probably contributed to my decision as well.

"It was a difficult thing to leave because I care about the football club and the players.

"I spoke to the players and the board of directors in the changing room after the game on Saturday and there is no doubt that was an emotional time. But it was emotional because we care and that's the most important thing."

Cuss revealed that while he had not totally ruled out taking on a manager's role elsewhere, he did not view it as part of his future plans.

He said: "I don't see myself being a manager at any other club.

"I think it's very difficult because of the feelings I've got for Wimborne. It's such a great club and the backing I've had from the board of directors, the players and supporters has been fantastic.

"Never say never but I would find it difficult to go to another club and be a manager there."

Wimborne have today issued a statement over Cuss's departure.

The statement read: "Steve Cuss has stood down as manager of Wimborne Town FC.

"The board have reluctantly accepted his decision and thank him for all his hard work and dedication.  Steve will remain a director of the club.

"We will now actively seek a new manager. Applications, accompanied by a CV, should be made in writing to Ken Stewart at WTFC, Cuthbury, Cowgrove Road, Wimborne, BH21 4EL by Thursday, November 19."
