WIMBORNE Town were dumped out of the Dorset Senior Cup at the first-round stage after suffering a 5-1 home humbling at the hands of lower-league Gillingham.

Steve Cuss's troops were behind after seven minutes when an overhead kick from Steve Smith had keeper Paul Roast rooted to the spot.

James Stokoe equalised with a wonderful strike from range but then the Western Premier outfit, who are without a permanent manager, took control.

The visitors forged ahead once more and three further strikes in the second half, including one in injury-time, rounded off an emphatic victory.

Magpies: Roast, Arnold, Crutcher, Holmes, Maybury, Blake, Turner, Randall (Waters, 56), Stokoe, Wilson, Preston. Unused subs: Oliver, Harvell (g/k).

  • Verwood Town were beaten 3-1 in a tight Sydenhams Wessex Premier encounter at Andover Town.

Charlie Gunson put the home side in front in the third minute, only for James Murray to quickly level.

But a further effort from Gunson and a stoppage-time goal from Michael Dixon earned Andover three points.
