MANAGER Steve Cuss had no complaints after Wimborne Town’s miserable recent record in the FA Cup had received another unwanted entry.

Magpies were dumped out by lower-league opposition for the fourth time in six seasons after suffering a 6-1 hammering at the hands of Sydenhams Wessex Premier outfit Blackfield & Langley.

The Watersiders emphatically bridged one step in the non-league pyramid thanks to ex-Wimborne man Rico Wilson’s hat-trick, Dan Munday’s double and a Jesse Gould effort at Cuthbury.

Wimborne, who had been bidding to reach the third qualifying round for the first time since 1993, bagged a consolation through James Stokoe.

Cuss told the Daily Echo: “We were disappointed. The performance wasn’t anywhere near good enough to win and we were heavily punished. It was a difficult one to take.

“We didn’t pass the ball well and never had a foothold in the game. We struggled from the first minute to the last and the scoreline reflected that.”

Cuss, whose team swelled the club’s coffers to the tune of £4,925 thanks to wins over Cowes Sports and Witheridge in previous rounds, added: “We had done well and had had two decent wins in the cup. But we didn’t play anywhere near where we are capable of and Blackfield fully deserved their win.”

Magpies: Harvell, Wilson, Oliver, Costello, Maybury, Blake, Griffin, Clarke, Stokoe, Gamble, Preston. Subs: Randall, Elliott, Turner, Johnson, O’Hare, Roast (g/k).
