CARL Poore stepped down as manager of Verwood Town because he felt he could not commit enough time to the role.

The 32-year-old departed after a 16-month spell at the Potterne Park outfit.

He guided Verwood to Sydenhams Wessex Premier safety last term and presided over a memorable run to the last 64 in the FA Vase.

Eleven days ago, he led the Potters to their first win in the FA Cup when they defeated Newport 2-0.

However, Poore admitted that family commitments had prevented him from giving the role the attention he felt it deserved.

He told the Daily Echo: “I started to feel that I couldn’t give as much to the job as I wanted to.

“I just felt that with a family at home it was getting a bit too much. I didn’t think what I was putting in was enough.

“A break from the game is what I need but I would like to return to football at some stage.

“It was a big decision to make and I hope that someone goes in there and keeps pushing the club forward.

“The club have been fantastic throughout my time there and I can’t thank them enough for giving me the opportunity.”

Verwood are due to entertain Folland Sports in a Sydenhams Wessex Premier clash tonight (7.45pm).
