BOURNEMOUTH Poppies were today involved in one of the most bizarre postponements in the history of non-league football.

Poppies’ Sydenhams Wessex Premier showdown with Team Solent, scheduled for Victoria Park, was called off due to a clash of kits.

Visitors Team Solent, promoted as champions of Wessex One last season, are understood to have turned up for the fixture hoping to play in red and white shirts.

However, as listed on the official Wessex League website, Poppies’ home strip is “all red”, while Solent’s change kit is listed as “yellow shirts, black shorts and socks”.

Team Solent officials had apparently been hoping to resolve the problem by borrowing Poppies’ spare kit.

However, Poppies were unable to help as their second kit was still at the laundry having been used during their midweek game at Blackfield & Langley.

As a result, Team Solent could find themselves in hot water with the Wessex League, with the competition step five in the non-league pyramid.
