CHRISTCHURCH battled back to win 2-1 in a feisty FA Cup clash with Cadbury Heath.

Matt Huxley scrambled home after five minutes to put the Bristol-based visitors, who ply their trade one level above Priory, one up.

However, a controversial backpass call from referee Cameron Lucas handed the hosts a lifeline right on half-time with former Cherry James Rowe thumping home the free-kick from close range.

Cadbury spurned a series of chances after the break and Christchurch took full advantage with 80 minutes on the clock, Dan Saul heading home after a bout of penalty area pinball.

Priory: Knights, Gage, Homer, Dand, Hughes, Cullen, Smith (Glatzel, 74), Thompson, Saul, Rowe (Saxby, 65), Goward. Unused subs: Seal, Vining, Randall, Newman, Fawcett (g/k).

  • Verwood Town secured their first win in the FA Cup courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Newport yesterday.

Liam Donachy put the hosts in front midway through the first half at Potterne Park and Joe Wood added a second shortly after the break.

Hamworthy United will travel to Hallen for a replay after Sam Davidson converted for the Hammers in a 1-1 draw.

Bournemouth Poppies and Lymington Town were on the end of 3-0 home defeats to AFC Portchester and Bitton, respectively, while New Milton were knocked out following a 2-0 loss at Sherborne.

  • Luke Gogan and Ben Harris scored for Ringwood Town but a late penalty allowed Downton to grab a 2-2 draw in Sydenhams Wessex One.
