EX-CHERRIES keeper Chad Collins is one of a number of youngsters on Poole Town manager Tom Killick’s radar this summer.

Killick has run the rule over a host of trialists during pre-season victories over Sydenhams Wessex League opponents Verwood Town and Blackfield & Langley during the past week.

Flexible midfielder Declan McCarthy, a product of Eastleigh’s youth setup, former Christchurch and Bournemouth Poppies defender Connor Doe and winger Lucas Burt are among those to make an impression on the Tatnam boss so far.

Killick told the Daily Echo: “We've made no firm decisions but Chad is one of a few players showing up well in pre-season. We haven’t held proper discussions with him yet but I would certainly like to keep him involved with us.

“Declan’s performances have been very strong so far and while he is one for the under-21s, he may be pushing for a first-team place sooner rather than later based on what we have seen.

“Connor has impressed us. He possibly won’t break into the first team straight away and could dual register for now but as and when needed, he could get his chance because he has done well.”

Young defender Zach Phelps, who came through the ranks at Wimborne Town, is set to join Todd Coombes and Sam White in Poole’s under-21s.

Much-travelled frontrunner Lerone Plummer will continue to trial with the club, as will ex-Wimborne winger Jamie Davidson once he returns from holiday.
