VICE-chairman Bruce Scammell reckons new supremo Mark Davis has the perfect mix of football and business acumen to help Hamworthy United flourish.

Committee member Davis, who works as finance director for Poole Lighting, was voted into the County ground chair at the club’s AGM on Monday, replacing Mark Bartlett who stood down due to increased work commitments.

Earlier this month, Scammell revealed the club had planned to appoint Bartlett’s successor from within and expressed his delight at ending Hammers’ quest for a new chief.

Scammell told the Dailly Echo: “Mike has been involved behind the scenes for the past 18 months, helping Shane (Traynor, manager) on the coaching side.

“He came on to the committee a few months ago and when we knew we would be looking for someone to step into Mark’s shoes, he soon came to light. From the various conversations we had from there, he really stood out.

“What we like about him is that he has a bit of everything. He is a young man with fresh ideas, good business experience and a football background. Hopefully, he can drag in a few more people.”

Meanwhile, United secretary Pete Gallop was made president of the Dorset Premier League at its AGM last week.
