BOSS Callum Brooks plans to reduce New Milton Town’s reliance on players from other clubs – even if that means a short-term dip in on-field fortunes.

The 30-year-old wants to kick off his third season in the Fawcett’s Field hot seat with more personnel committed solely to his side’s Sydenhams Wessex League Division One cause.

And while Brooks still hopes to retain the services of dual-registered Poole Town youngsters Anthony Harris and Sam White, the manager is prioritising long-term stability over bettering last season’s sixth-place finish.

Brooks told the Daily Echo: “We will be very young this season and a bit more rough and ready. I have rebuilt from scratch again so we are not expecting miracles.

“Last season we borrowed so many players from other clubs we lost a bit of focus.Your regular players must enjoy it and feel they are part of a tight unit and that's what I have prioritised this time.

"It would be fair to say we have a side that is here to play for New Milton rather than players who just want minutes.

“Building with a young group takes time so I would delighted with a top-half finish and a bit of excitement in the cups. That said, we will be organised and full of enthusiasm and our energy alone will get us some points."

Robbie Woolner, Paul Bayston, Tom Rees, Craig Barnett, James Shering and Matt Odell have all re-signed over the summer, with Jordan Hiscock joining the management team following a spell with league rivals Ringwood last season.

Ringwood pair Barney Gritt and Sam Chilman and Sam Rea are among the new faces, with Brooks keen to integrate college footballers Dan Hicks, Josh Omamagho, Josh Hicks and Fabio Firetto.

One player that could be heading for the exit, however, is Poole Town’s Morgan Turner.

Brooks added: “I'm working closely with Morgan this pre-season and would love to have him with us but he has a couple of opportunities to test himself at a higher level. We will have to see what happens.”
