NEW director Steve Harvey has vowed to provide Wimborne Town with the “rocket” to help boss Steve Cuss reach for the stars.

Former Hamworthy United chairman and Poole Town director Harvey, 59, admitted the club’s ambition had been stifled since Paul Miller relinquished the helm 12 months ago.

The new man played down the prospect of taking the hotseat himself but promised to get cracking on boosting the finances at Cuthbury.

Harvey told the Daily Echo: “It will be a big challenge. We have lost our way a bit over the past 12 months since Paul decided to stand down.

“Wimborne is a great club with so many corporate opportunities. One of my first objectives is to try to get the sponsorship going and I am working hard to get people I know on board.

“The main thing I am looking to do is get things on a solid business footing and give Steve Cuss some money to move things on but we are a long way from shouting about how wonderful we are and what we are going to do.

“The club has a lot of good people who have been there for a long time, they just need an interfering so-and-so like me to sort a few things out. It is a great opportunity and a great football club, it just needs a rocket.”

  • Christchurch have pulled off a transfer coup by persuading defender Shaun Brian to return to the fold.

The 27-year-old centre-half, a first-team regular in the Southern League with Wimborne Town until recently, has commitments with the RAF but is optimistic he can play a regular part in Priory’s quest for promotion from Sydenhams Wessex One.

Meanwhile, striker Russell Cook has left Hamworthy United to link up with former boss Graham Kemp at Premier Division rivals Bemerton Heath Harlequins.
