BOSS Carl Poore expects a tough summer ahead of his second season at Verwood – despite snapping up two signings from relegated rivals Christchurch.

Goalkeeper Adam Tong and striker Joe Wood are set to switch to Potterne Park as Poore looks to build on a solid 15th-place finish in his first full campaign.

But with unearthed gems such as midfielder Tom Whelan attracting interest from higher levels, the Potters boss reckons he will be scurrying for more diamonds in the rough.

Poore said: “I’m delighted to strengthen and am hoping to secure a few more faces but it’s always hard for a club like ours.

“At this stage of the closed season, players are looking for money and, unfortunately, we don’t have any.

“I always knew we would need to find some more talented youngsters like Tom Whelan, who we will no doubt be losing to a higher league club.”

Tong played 16 times between the sticks for Christchurch last season, while Wood scored once in four appearances at the end of the campaign.

Verwood have pencilled in three friendlies. Poore is set to take his team to former club Cranborne on July 10, with Poole (July 14) and Wimborne (July 18) playing at Potterne Park.
