POOLE Town manager Tom Killick is keen to snatch silverware early as the Southern Premier title race hurtles towards a thrilling conclusion.

Dolphins got their promotion charge back on track with a 2-0 victory over Banbury on Tuesday, a triumph which followed a four-game winless run.

A single point behind leaders Corby with a game in hand, Poole could theoretically win the title before they clash with the Steelmen on the final day.

Victory at Chesham tomorrow (3pm), coupled with a Corby defeat at play-off chasers Weymouth, would hand Killick's troops the chance to wrap up the title against the Terras at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Tuesday.

And while admitting his sole focus was on gaining three points at Chesham, Killick revealed that an early passage to Conference South would be his preference.

He told the Daily Echo: "It was so vital for us to beat Banbury and now that we've done that, in the most boring manner possible we have to concentrate on Chesham and see where that leads us.

"What we would love is to beat Chesham and for Corby to drop points against Weymouth, which would give us the opportunity to win the league at Weymouth.

"That would be a tough proposition but you would rather that than for the league to go to the last game.

"Weymouth have got their own ambitions to look after in terms of a play-off place and there is local rivalry between us and Weymouth that there isn't between Weymouth and Corby.

"In some ways, I was pleased that Weymouth won the Dorset Senior Cup on Tuesday. They are side that have probably been bereft of confidence and you hope that that might give them a little bit of a lift for the Corby game on Saturday.

"However, Chesham is not going to be easy by any means so we have to take care of that first. It is a big enough fixture for us to worry about so we will see what happens."

Killick was delighted at Poole's return to winning ways against a functional but toothless Banbury outfit, having previously failed to taste victory in April.

The boss added: "Confidence has been in short supply and while we're not going to pretend it was a hugely impressive performance, I felt it was a much-needed victory.

"Going in front helped us as it settled us down a bit and although perhaps we should have killed the game off a little bit earlier, there were significant signs that we were more like ourselves."
