POOLE Town got their Southern Premier title charge back on track with a 2-0 victory over strugglers Banbury tonight.
Tom Killick’s troops ended their four-game winless run courtesy of a goal in each half from Tom Whelan and Richard Gillespie.
Victory at Tatnam meant Dolphins moved within a point of table-toppers Corby and with a game in hand.
And the prospect of an effective final-day promotion play-off with the Steelmen still looms large.
Poole made an explosive start against the Puritans and striker Gillespie rattled the upright before the hosts took the lead in the eighth minute.
Gillespie shepherded the ball away from keeper Leigh Bedwell and pulled across goal for Whelan to drill home on his first league start.
The crucial second goal arrived nine minutes after the break. Luke Burbidge won possession, embarked on a mazy run and played in Gillespie, who slotted calmly into the right corner.
Banbury rarely threatened and substitute Nathaniel Lewars spurned a glorious chance in injury-time when he headed over.
