BOSS Carl Poore was left with mixed feelings after Verwood Town pouched a creditable point against 10-man title-chasers Moneyfields.

Steve Hutchings handed Moneys a first-half lead but the Potters piled on the pressure after Alfie Rutherford’s dismissal for the visitors.

But despite registering 20 shots in the second half, Verwood had only Tom Whelan’s well-struck free-kick to show for their efforts in a 1-1 draw at Potterne Park.

Poore told the Daily Echo: “We should have won the game easily and felt disappointed with the draw, although I would have taken a point before the game.

“It shows just how far we have come that we feel frustrated with a draw against a top-three club.”

The result sees Verwood remain 15th in the table.

Hamworthy United also held a Sydenhams Wessex League championship contender with a 2-2 draw at home to league leaders Petersfield Town.

Josh Rose and Dan Smith were on target for the Hammers but strikes from Sean Wain and substitute Jordan Neal protected the visitors’ unbeaten league record which dates back to October.

United slipped to 12th in the table at the expense of Horndean who registered a 1-0 victory at 10-man Lymington Town.

Darren Ritchie was dismissed for the hosts at the Sports Ground with Nathan Paxton grabbing the decisive goal after Robbie Pittman had missed a penalty for the Deans.

The setback saw Lymo slip to sixth in the Premier Division standings. Bournemouth Poppies did not play and remain 18th.

In Wessex Division One, New Milton Town’s hopes of a late title charge were dented by a 1-1 draw at struggling Downton.

Kabba Jack’s first-half strike was cancelled out by Declan McGregor’s leveller as the Linnets slipped to fifth in the table.

Ninth-placed Ringwood Town did not play.
