POOLE Town boss Tom Killick has challenged his players to heap the pressure on their title rivals by embarking on a powerful pre-Easter run.

Killick believes a number of favourable results in their next eight games would leave the Dolphins in a strong position heading into the final month of the season.

Second-half goals from Richard Gillespie and Michael Walker saw Poole come from 2-0 down to claim a share of the spoils against fourth-placed Truro on Saturday.

The White Tigers, who are among Poole’s main challengers, netted twice in quick succession through Ed Palmer and Arran Pugh just before the interval at a windswept Treyew Road.

Killick told the Daily Echo: “You could spend hours trying to predict everyone’s results and it would be of no significance because it could all be turned on its head.

“I would like us to put together a really powerful sequence of results in our next few games and, depending on how other teams do, we could be in a very comfortable position. That is what I am hoping.

“If we ended up in Conference South on goal difference, we would take it all day long but it wouldn’t do much for the nerves!

“I would like nothing more than to have it in the bag with two or three to go but that is still a big ask for us. The frequency of the games is relentless and the schedule is punishing on the players, both physically and mentally. They just have to try to stay as strong as they can.”

Gillespie came off the bench to halve the deficit midway through the second half before Walker earned Poole a share of the points seven minutes from time.

Killick added: “We were frustrated because we defended a very strong wind in the first half and conceded a couple of bad goals in the last couple of minutes. We had been under pressure but had dealt with it very well so trailing 2-0 at the break put us in a difficult position.

“Richard Gillespie took his goal very well and Michael Walker is always a threat from set-pieces so his goal was very important.

“There wasn’t an awful lot of quality on show from either team and it was fairly primitive. Truro are significantly improved from the start of the season so, overall, we were reasonably satisfied. It was a good fightback and a very positive result for us considering we had to come from 2-0 down.”
