VERWOOD Town boss Carl Poore revealed how veteran Taffy Richardson had “rolled back the years” in Potters' 1-0 win over Fareham Town.

The 48-year-old non-league legend played the full 90 minutes as Liam Donachy's second-half header gave the hosts victory at Potterne Park.

Richardson had previously featured as a substitute against Hamworthy United on December 27 having come out of retirement to sign for the club.

However, he sustained calf muscle damage in the 1-0 defeat and had to wait for his first start in central-midfield.

Poore told the Daily Echo: “We were missing four normal starters from the line-up but the lads that stepped in did really well and Taffy Richardson was superb.

“He did really well considering he hasn't played competitively for some time. He definitely rolled back the years!

“Even having been round the block, his determination to win rubs off on the kids in our team. He was a huge presence for us.”

Donachy nodded home a Tom Whelan corner with 17 minutes left to make it six wins in nine league games for the Potters.

Poore added: “We had threatened to score throughout the game but Fareham had their fair share of chances as well and it could have been five or six each.

“However, we defended well considering it was not the normal back four that we're used to.”
