TOM Killick admitted Histon had given a display above their station after his Poole Town side had been held to a 1-1 draw at the Glass World Stadium.

Dolphins took a Southern Premier point after Cherries loanee Joe Quigley had swiftly cancelled out Nick Freeman’s second-half opener.

The match extended to five league games Poole’s unbeaten run and handed the Tatnam side the chance to go five points clear with victory at home to Chesham United on Tuesday.

And while Killick was disappointed not to secure maximum points in Cambridgeshire, he admitted that a share of the spoils was a fair outcome.

The boss told the Daily Echo: “In advance of the game, we thought it was a good opportunity to get three points on the board. You can’t help but look at the league table and think that it’s a game that you should be capable of winning.

“What I’m finding is that you have almost disregard the league table because Histon put in a performance that was dramatically at odds with their position in the league.

“It was a very evenly-fought affair and a draw was a fair result. I don’t think they were fortunate to draw. They were very good on the day.

“If you had asked me before the game if I would have accepted a draw, I would have said ‘no’.

"But having seen what Histon put into the game and what they were like, I’m reasonably satisfied with a point.

“Opposition performances are often not reflective of what the league table is telling us.

“We are one of the top teams and sides do raise their game a bit against us – I do think we suffer with that – but also there is not a lot between teams in this league.”

Having seen his side fall behind to the hosts’ 62nd-minute opener, Killick was pleased to see Quigley pull Dolphins level moments later.

He continued: “Their goal was a bit soft but we were able to bounce back quickly.

"I think we had the more clear-cut chances in the game but Histon put so much endeavour and commitment in that it was difficult for us.

“The pitch was also very heavy so that possibly helped them a little bit as well.”
