MANAGER Tom Killick insists Poole Town’s barren run in front of goal is down to a lack of fortune rather than firepower.

Dolphins have scored just three goals in their past seven Southern League Premier Division outings and suffered their first home league defeat of the season against promotion rivals Redditch on Saturday.

Killick revealed he had missed out on two loan targets – one from a Football League club – in the past week but that any further business was unlikely ahead of Richard Gillespie’s anticipated return this weekend.

But despite murmurs of discontent at Tatnam, Killick believes the tide will turn in Poole’s favour with tonight’s home clash with Chippenham Town (7.45pm) on the horizon.

“People have to understand that even back in our Wessex League days, our success was built on being hard to break down,” said Killick.

“We normally create enough chances to score once or twice without being the most expansive of sides. Nothing much has changed.

“Missing chances is not all down to personnel, more how our luck is going. It is easy to say sign a new centre-forward but it is not as if bringing in players is some kind of magic wand.

“I have every confidence in the players and to deviate from the way we play would be counter-productive. As long as we keep creating chances, they will start going in.”
