BOSS Adie Arnold admitted he had been "massively let down" after Christchurch leaked cheap goals in their second heavy defeat to Verwood Town this season.

Arnold, the most successful manager in Verwood’s history, watched Priory crumble to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the gleeful Potters in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier.

Liam Donachy, Jordan Fisk and Matt Groves put the visitors 3-0 up at Hurn Bridge and although Bryce Banfield pulled one back after the break, Dan Munday completed the rout.

Other than Fisk’s lobbed effort, the visitors’ goals came from corners and Arnold was left dispirited by the rearguard display of his team.

He told the Daily Echo: “I’m hugely disappointed with the performance because I thought we had turned a corner in the past four games.

“The real disappointment for me is people not doing their jobs and conceding three goals from set-pieces. On a personal level I felt massively let down by individual players.

“For the first goal there were three red shirts unmarked in the six-yard box, the second was a shocking mistake, there was no challenge on the header for the third and we didn’t deal with a corner for the fourth. We got what we deserved – nothing.

“I’ve got to take it on the chin and it does hurt because of who it’s against.

“What frustrates me is that we have to create our goals and we give soft goals away.”

Potters boss Carl Poore, who masterminded a 4-0 opening-day win over Arnold’s troops, admitted he had been surprised by the home side’s performance.

He said: “I was expecting more from Christchurch as they were four games unbeaten and had won 7-0 in their last game.

“We controlled the game for 85 minutes and if it wasn’t for their keeper, it could have been double figures.

“I thought they didn’t really offer much at all. I expect Adie won’t be happy with some of their defending but we have some pace and it caused them trouble throughout the game.”

Arnold did have positive words for the man in the middle, however, adding: “Considering it was a derby, the referee was one of the best we’ve had all season.

"He managed the game well and it was played in a very good spirit.”
