EARLY and late efforts condemned Wimborne Town to a 2-0 defeat at home to AFC Totton in Southern South & West.

Wimborne were up against it in the fifth minute when from a free-kick on the right flank, the faintest of headers from Rob Flooks beat keeper Jason Harvell.

Zac Mouland slammed wide before Magpies’ Ian Oliver rattled the bar with a cross-shot from the left.

As half-time approached, an awkward Jamie Davidson shot was parried behind by Steve Mowthorpe and from the resultant corner, Louis Kellaway forced the Stags keeper to palm over.

In an open second period, Harvell saved well from the clean-through Craig Feeney before Davidson and Sam Griffin were denied.

Totton spurned a glorious chance with Harvell off-limits, Ellis White firing straight at substitute Tom Biles as the open goal gaped behind the defender.

Mike Gosney whipped a free-kick inches past the post before the visitors grabbed a second goal two minutes from time.

A swift counter-attack – which involved an accidental touch from the referee – once more gave Feeney the chance to beat Harvell and this time the ex-Blackfield forward made no mistake.

A late free-kick from Griffin worried Mowthorpe but the custodian kept out the curling effort.

Magpies: Harvell, Arnold, Oliver, Maybury, Costello (Biles, 28), Kellaway (Kemble, 74), Griffin, Davidson, Waters (Blake, 60), Gamble, Stokoe. Unused subs: Roast, Wilcox.
