FORMER Cherries youngster George Webb has revealed he is keeping his options open after deciding to end his four-year stay at Wimborne Town.

The midfielder’s contract with the Southern League outfit has been cancelled by mutual consent, leaving him free to find another club.

Webb came through the ranks at Dean Court and was handed his debut by Eddie Howe as a late substitute in Cherries’ 4-0 win at Morecambe on the final day of the 2008-09 Greatest Escape campaign.

He started the following season on non-contract terms with Cherries and agreed to turn out for the cash-strapped club without receiving any wages before leaving in October 2009.

Poole-born Webb had been a reserve team regular during his time with Cherries and made a total of four appearances for Howe’s first team, including two in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

Following a brief spell with Gosport Borough, he had an unsuccessful trial with Yeovil before dropping into the Wessex League with Poppies and Hamworthy United.

He earned his move to Wimborne after scoring freely with Poppies and Hammers, helping the Magpies establish themselves in the Southern League following their promotion in 2010.

Webb, 23, who made almost 200 appearances for Wimborne, told the Daily Echo: “I would like to thank everybody at the club for everything they did for me. It is a great club with great supporters and they are good people there.

“You never know what will happen in the future but I have decided to have a little break. There are a few things on the table and I am reviewing my options. I was there a long time and, sometimes, you need a change to test yourself again.”

Wimborne will be hoping to complete a quick-fire Hampshire treble when they host Division One South & West rivals AFC Totton on Saturday (3pm).

The Magpies followed up a 3-1 victory over Fleet at Cuthbury nine days ago with last week’s 3-1 triumph at Sholing to climb back into the top half of the table.

Boss Steve Cuss told the club website: “Totton have made one or two excellent loan signings and they are on a good run of form. But we have also been playing well of late so I am expecting a good game.”

Back-up goalkeeper Ben Field has been ruled out due to a broken nose, while midfielder Jon Blake is facing a late fitness test following a hamstring injury.
