LYMINGTON Town ensured a positive start to 2015 as they secured a 2-1 win over in-form Andover Town in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier.

Victory at the Sports Ground gave John Pyatt’s men back-to-back successes and allowed them to close to five points the gap on sixth-placed Folland Sports.

Lymington were handed the chance to take the lead in the first period when Tony Lee was shoved over in the box by Gilbert Aromona.

Although keeper Jake Wellesley-David guessed the right way, Jake Bockhart’s penalty was too powerful and flew into the top-right corner.

Andover levelled just before the break when a deep corner was headed back across by Ryan Inskip and Michael Dixon nodded home from close range.

However, Lymo got their winner in the second period when good work from Bockhart and Tom Man down the right allowed Brad Strickland to prod home from close range.

Lymo: Vine, Man (Jones, 81), Bond, Tate, Ansell, Rizzo (Farren, 62), Strick- land, Lee (Soetan, 56), Roberts, Davis, Bockhart. Sub not used: Williamson.

  • The only other Wessex League action involving a local side saw New Milton sunk 5-3 by Cowes Sports in Division One.

Morgan Turner, Jack Dickson and Robert Woolner netted consolation goals for the visitors.

In the Southern Premier, Poole Town’s home clash against Banbury fell victim to the weather while in Southern South & West, Wimborne’s meeting with North Leigh suffered the same fate.
