MANAGER Tom Killick has thrown down the FA Trophy gauntlet to his Poole Town players and insisted reaching the first round had been “no big deal”.

Dolphins rescued their third-qualifying round replay against Conference South club Staines Town by levelling with the last kick of extra-time before progressing 5-4 on penalties.

The result ensured a safe passage to the competition proper for the first time since 1987 as Poole joined fierce rivals Wimborne Town in the last 64.

But despite heightened interest in the national competition, Killick is adamant his charges have yet to achieve anything ahead of tomorrow’s tie at Maidenhead United (3pm).

Killick told the Daily Echo: “I do not really get any pleasure from getting as far as we have. I think this is the minimum our club should expect and, had we been knocked out any earlier, I would have been disappointed.

“We have just about done what I expected us to do so if we can push on, win this next game and maybe one or two beyond that then I would consider it a good run.

“I think one or two people get carried away and think there is some achievement in getting to this stage. I do not believe there is.

“Every club has different aspirations but, without sounding arrogant, it is no big deal. If you win in this round and beyond, you deserve to get some plaudits.”

Killick is sweating on the fitness of Marvin Brooks, Richard Gillespie and Luke Burbidge for the clash but long-term absentees Will Spetch, Carl Preston and Keith Emmerson miss out.
