TOM Killick is backing former skipper Carl Poore to make his mark in management – despite being responsible for the biggest drubbing of his short Verwood career.

Poole Town showed no mercy in ruining Poore’s return to Tatnam with a 9-0 Dorset Senior Cup thumping of the Potters played out in horrendous conditions.

It was one-way traffic after Charlie Davis rounded off Jack Maloney’s work on the left after 10 minutes with Dan Munday profiting from Jack Dickson’s trickery moments later.

Maloney made it three with a composed finish from Munday’s cut-back midway through the first half with Luke Roberts teeing up Munday’s second after half an hour.

Roberts made it five before the break with half-time substitute Sammy Glatzel netting four minutes after the restart.

Munday struck number seven and Roberts completed his brace with a stooping header. Munday then secured his hat-trick at the second attempt with eight minutes to play.

However, Killick argued that his old mate would have no problem picking up Verwood’s beleaguered troops at the end of a week which also saw them crash out of the FA Vase 6-1 at St Austell.

Killick told the Daily Echo: “The conditions were horrific from start to finish which made it a difficult night for everyone involved. Verwood had quite an inexperienced side out and their biggest problem was that we scored quite early.

“After the Vase match, this one possibly came at the wrong time for them but I am sure with Carl in charge there will be better days ahead.

“He has the characteristics to become an exceptional manager at Verwood and, without disrespect, beyond that as well.”

Poore added: “I did not expect it to be that bad but having conceded the early goal, our heads went down and that has been our problem throughout the season.”
