WIMBORNE Town have been handed a challenging assignment in the first round of the FA Trophy and will host Conference North high-fliers Oxford City.
The Magpies booked their place in today’s draw after registering a 4-2 win over Ryman Premier strugglers AFC Hornchurch at Cuthbury on Saturday.
Wimborne, who had never previously got past the second qualifying round stage, will host Oxford City on Saturday, December 13.
Currently sixth in Conference North, Oxford City eased into the first round following a 6-1 thrashing of Lewes, who are two places above second-from-bottom Hornchurch in Ryman Premier.
The teams will duel for £5,000 in prize money with Wimborne’s club-record exploits in the competition having already earned them £12,450.
Meanwhile, the winners of tomorrow’s third qualifying round replay between Poole Town and Staines Town at Tatnam will travel to Conference South Maidenhead United.
Maidenhead, currently 13th in the table, won through after recording a 2-1 home win over Ryman Premier Metropolitan Police.
