ANGRY boss Carl Poore accused some of his Verwood Town charges of “only turning up for the big games” following yesterday’s 1-0 home reverse against Fawley.

Fourth-bottom Potters remain embroiled in the Sydenhams Premier Division’s relegation scrap after Charlie Willett’s solitary strike for the Oilers proved decisive.

Poore labelled Verwood’s display the worst since he took charge in April and questioned whether his players had taken their eye off the ball in the midst of an impressive FA Vase run.

“It is amazing how quickly things can change in football,” said Poore. “It was like we had a different team out there.

“The lads gave me nothing. We were off the pace and blew a good chance to give ourselves breathing space in the league. In that respect it was our biggest game of the season but we did not treat it that way.

“We did not show the same get up and go we had against Winchester and Plymouth Parkway and I told the lads a few home truths after the game. We cannot afford to take our foot off the gas when we play the likes of Fawley, Christchurch and Fareham, they are our bread and butter games which will keep us in this league.

“You have to beat the teams around you and we should have won. Some lads just get up for the Vase and that is not right.”
