BOSS Steve Cuss saw Wimborne’s impressive recent run come to a shuddering halt and conceded Southern League high-fliers Didcot had been worthy winners.

Cuss admitted he had “no complaints” with the 5-1 scoreline in leafy Oxfordshire but said he had been somewhat aggrieved with a red card issued to Magpies’ Jamie Davidson.

The midfielder was dismissed for a second-half challenge on Didcot’s Jack Self, a tackle Cuss felt had only warranted a yellow card.

Wimborne headed to Didcot’s Loop Meadow on the back of a six-match winning run, only to become the latest victims of Division One South & West’s leading marksman John Mills.

Mills took his seasonal haul to 31 goals by plundering a hat-trick, including a penalty, his treble sandwiched between early and late efforts from Pablo Haysham and Matt Clark, respectively.

Cuss, whose team host Fleet Town on Tuesday, told the Daily Echo: “It was disappointing for the run to come to such an abrupt end but we could have no complaints with the scoreline. We came up against a very experienced and good side in Didcot and they were full value for their victory.

“For me, they are one of the best sides we have played this season and I am sure they are going to be right up there. It is a fantastic achievement for a striker to have scored more than 30 goals before the end of November.

“We had been on a terrific run with the six wins in a row and now have to try to bounce back. Fortunately, we have a game on Tuesday and it is always nice to play quickly after a setback.

“The sending-off had no impact on the game but I was a little disappointed with it. I like to think I always give honest assessments of these situations and I thought it should have been a yellow card. The referee had to make a split-second decision but it had no bearing on the outcome of the game.”
