BOSS Tom Killick wants his Poole Town charges to take their FA Trophy inspiration from last season’s surprise packages Gosport Borough.

Killick was among the crowd at Wembley in March to see Alex Pike’s men fly the flag for the underdog when they lost 4-0 in the final to Cambridge United.

Poole, who have reached the first round just once in their past 26 attempts, will tomorrow hope to negotiate a tricky second qualifying round tie at Premier Division rivals Biggleswade (3pm).

Killick (pictured), who guided Dolphins to the semi-finals of the FA Vase in 2011, said: “I watched the finals of the Trophy and Vase last season and they were chalk and cheese.

“Although Gosport were soundly beaten, it was a massive occasion.

"I know it is far-fetched to think about getting to the final but, with a bit of luck, you can certainly reach the latter stages and that is what we want to try to do.

“We were upset at our relatively early exit from FA Cup this season and cup runs are vital in every sense. As we didn’t make much money in the FA Cup, we want to try to make some in the FA Trophy.”

Poole, who have exited the competition at this stage for the past two years, are without influential midfielder Marvin Brooks who serves a one-match ban.

The tie is likely to come too soon for Carl Preston (groin) and Keith Emmerson (ankle), although striker Richard Gillespie could be involved after returning from Australia yesterday.
