FRUSTRATED Adie Arnold admits he is “sick to death” of compliments from opposition managers that have masterminded victories over his Christchurch side.
Despite nearly completing a remarkable comeback, struggling Priory were sunk 5-3 at Sydenhams Premier leaders Whitchurch United yesterday.
Whitchurch held a 3-0 lead after 10 minutes but Dan Haysom’s header midway through the first half made it 3-1 at the break.
The hosts extended their advantage following the resumption but a Jack Lovell header and a superb Nathan Saxby volley brought it back to 4-3.
The unfortunate Anthony Harris then rattled the woodwork on three occasions – including both posts within a matter of seconds – as Christchurch poured forward.
However, Whitchurch made sure of three points with a fifth goal that left Arnold still searching for a first league win since September 13.
The boss told the Daily Echo: “I’m sick to death of managers telling me after games that they don’t know how we’re down at the bottom with the side we’ve got.
“We’re in a rut and it’s about getting that first win but that win has to come sooner rather than later.
“I’m under pressure, it’s not rocket science. We’re in a poor run but we’ve got a run of games coming up against sides around us and I just hope we get a break.
“It’s a whole new side that we’re building and not one player in the squad was involved last year. It will take time to gel and this is a bigger job than was anticipated.”
Arnold admitted his team had been made to pay for a slow start, with the opening goal coming before a visiting player had even touched the ball.
He added: “At 3-0 down against the team that is top of the league, I was hoping we weren’t going to collapse but after Dan Haysom scored there wasn’t a lot in it.
“It sums our season up. We hit the woodwork three times and missed three clear-cut chances and it’s just so frustrating.
“If you give the league leaders a 3-0 head start, you will give yourself a mountain to climb.”
