WIMBORNE Town under-18s suffered first-round disappointment in the FA Youth Cup despite a brave display at Oxford City last night.

The young Magpies conceded a late goal in a 3-2 defeat and therefore missed out on a home tie against Luton Town.

Teddy Bignell had put the visitors in front with a penalty midway through the first half after Chris Wilcox was fouled in the box.

Ant Waters fired off-target from an acute angle before Oxford equalised when a free-kick was not dealt with by the Wimborne backline.

Under-16s player Harrison White went close at the start of the second half but it was City that struck next in the 62nd minute.

Matt Morris levelled soon after and was denied moments later when he went through one-on-one.

With three minutes left, Oxford grabbed their winner when a loose ball was slammed home.

Meanwhile, Christchurch’s youth team were dumped out following a 5-0 loss to their Swindon Town counterparts at Hurn Bridge.

Goals from Amir Gied (2), Callum McCormack, Luke Matthews and Lee Marshall condemned the hosts to defeat.

Poole Town’s youngsters will take on Torquay in the first round at Tatnam on Thursday evening (7.30pm).

Elsewhere, Bournemouth Poppies and Fawley both missed penalties in a 2-2 Sydenhams Premier draw at Victoria Park.

A topsy-turvy clash saw Charlie Willett put Fawley in front early on, only for Dan Saul to level soon after.

Diane Bassiriki made it 2-1 to the hosts but then turned villain after the break when he had a penalty saved.

Willett equalised with his second of the night and Poppies were let off the hook when Callum Tanner skied from the spot in the dying stages.

Christchurch conceded five second-half goals in their 6-0 loss at Blackfield & Langley, in which Ekow Elliott (2), Franklyn Clarke, Jesse Gould, Jake Rowley and Hugh Dathan scored.

Manny Soetan and Warren Kenna (pen) netted as nine-man Lymington Town saw off 10-man Verwood Town 2-1 and moved up to seventh in the table.
