CONTENTED manager Adi Trimby believes his Parley Sports players have exceeded expectations since he took the reins 13 months ago.

Trimby, who has fulfilled various roles during his 15-year association with the club, steadied the ship following a rocky start to last season.

He guided them to 13th in his debut campaign, while Saturday’s 2-1 home win over Wareham Rangers saw Sports consolidate fourth place in the table.

Second-half goals from Matt Newbery and Dan Hiscock earned Parley an eighth victory in 11 league games and left them on the coat-tails of the leaders.

Trimby told the Daily Echo: “It took a lot of stabilising at the start of last season. Then, it was a question of trying to make improvements and we were one of the form teams towards the end of the season.

“That was when I knew I wouldn’t have to change too much. I just needed to keep them pushing on and that is what has happened.

"I have a good squad of players and am pleased with them. We have probably surpassed what I had been hoping for. What I like about it most is that it is a progressive squad.”

Parley, who won six of their final nine games last season, took maximum points from five of their first seven this time round – all away from home.

And since returning to home soil at the start of September, Parley have won three and drawn one of their four league encounters, their latest triumph coming against an impressive Rangers outfit who had Richie Parsons on target in the closing stages.

Trimby added: “Although we have been getting positive results, we have been a bit up and down recently so I was very pleased because this was a good performance.

“From what I have seen, I rate Wareham Rangers as one of the best teams in the league. They are a good, solid outfit.

“We deserved our win because of the number of chances we created and amount of possession we had.

"It was a good win and just a shame we gave away a goal at the end because we haven’t kept a clean sheet yet this season.

“Towards the end of the game, I opened my big mouth and said to my assistant that I thought we might keep a clean sheet and a minute later they scored!”
