MERLEY Cobham Sports moved top of the Dorset Premier League courtesy of a thumping 4-1 victory at home to Tintinhull.

Two-goal hero Aaron Atkinson got the ball rolling midway through the first half and doubled the advantage minutes before the break.

That was how it stayed until the final 10 minutes when the prolific Elliott Goward got number three and Ryan Woolfenden added a fourth.

There was still time for Luke Jennings to register for Tintinhull but it proved too little, too late.

Hamworthy Recreation’s inaction in the league meant that Merley hold a one-point advantage at the top of the table, although Hamworthy have a game in hand.

Westland Sports continued their strong home form thanks to a 3-1 win over struggling Poole Borough.

Szymon Matuszewski put Westland ahead in the 20th minute and Leo Hayward sent the hosts into the interval with a 2-0 advantage.

With an hour played, Hayward doubled his personal tally to give Westland a comfortable cushion, before Robert Teppett pulled one back late on.

Elsewhere, Wareham Rangers suffered a surprise 1-0 defeat to Sherborne Town reserves.

Chay Tully got the only goal of the game in the lead-up to half-time.

Ten-man Cranborne were sunk 2-0 at ten-man Weymouth reserves on a disappointing day for the villagers.

A Sammy Nicholls brace short-ly after half-time put Weymouth in command. The hosts’ Sean Zima and Cranborne’s Dan Loader were dismissed following an 86th-minute melee.

The defeat left Cranborne 13th in the standings.
