THE pick of the FA Vase ties was undoubtedly at Potterne Park where Verwood Town edged a 10-goal thriller with Bristol-based outfit Roman Glass St George.

Goals from Verwood’s Tom Whelan, Josh Buck, Matt Groves and Jordan Fisk meant the second qualifying round clash went to extra time.

And a late double from Billy Lowes ensured the home side progressed as 6-4 winners.

A Harry Morgan brace and a further effort from Sean Leadbetter ensured that Ringwood ran out 3-2 winners at Cadbury Heath.

Meanwhile, New Milton Town lost 1-0 at Sherborne Town.

Lymington Town remained in the competition after sharing a 1-1 draw at Horndean.

Jack Odam put the Linnets in front in the first half but a late equaliser and two goalless extra time periods meant a replay was set up.

Bournemouth Poppies endured a miserable trip to Wiltshire as they were hammered 8-1 by Western Premier Melksham Town.

Striker Gary Higdon was Poppies’ main tormentor with five goals, which included a hat-trick after just 48 minutes.

Dan Griffiths, Ash Barnett and Leigh Rogers also registered for the hosts with Elliot Ward’s effort proving scant consolation for the visitors.

Hamworthy United were also eliminated from the competition as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at Wessex Premier rivals AFC Portchester.

Adie Arnold’s Christchurch suffered the same fate – by the same scoreline – following their trip to Calne Town.

Dorset Premier League representatives Swanage Town & Herston’s hopes of claiming another higher- division scalp were ended when they were defeated on penalties.

Following a 1-1 draw against Wessex One side United Services Portsmouth at Days Park, Alan Lay’s men lost 4-3 in the shootout.
