CHRISTCHURCH manager Adie Arnold will be looking for a trophy tonic when his team travel to Calne Town in the FA Vase on Saturday.

Priory, currently second bottom of the Wessex Premier, lock horns with their lower league opponents in the second qualifying round clash in Wiltshire (3pm).

“The Vase is always a welcome distraction,” said Arnold, who watched Calne draw 2-2 with Western One rivals Keynsham Town last weekend.

“We are hoping to get a victory that will kick-start our season in the league. Calne aren’t a bad side but it is a game we are capable of winning.

“It’s frustrating at the moment because we are lacking a little bit of confidence. A good result in the Vase could be the spur we need.”

Priory will be looking to bounce back from Saturday’s 4-0 home defeat to Moneyfields at Hurn Bridge.

Arnold has recently bolstered his squad by promoting Lewis Cook and Jack Goodship from the club’s respective youth and reserve teams.

Former Wimborne and Hamworthy United stalwart Daniel Haysom has also been a welcome addition at the heart of the defence.

“Dan has played the past few games and done well. But I am still looking to strengthen the defence even further with another signing shortly,” added Arnold.

“I am confident that with a little more belief, we can climb the table quickly.”

Elsewhere, Dorchester Town goalkeeper Shane Murphy is set to debut for Hamworthy United at AFC Portchester having dual-registered at the County Ground.

Martin Warren should also be available for Stewart Kearn’s side.

Verwood Town host lower-league opposition in the shape of Bristol-based Western One outfit Roman Glass St George at Potterne Park, while Bournemouth Poppies travel to Melksham Town.

Dorset Premier League outfit Swanage Town & Herston will look to pull off another shock when they entertain United Services Portsmouth (all 3pm).

Each winning team will receive £800 in prize money.
