POOLE Town’s FA Cup dream came to an end on Tuesday as they were sunk 2-0 by Conference South outfit Bath City.

Marvin Brooks’ 90th-minute equaliser at Twerton Park at the weekend had handed Dolphins another crack at the second qualifying round tie.

But Tom Killick’s troops were unable to deliver a replay victory in front of more than 500 fans and the Romans therefore earned £4,000 in prize money and a tie with Southern South & West side Shortwood in the third qualifying round.

Victory for Bath was secured by a goal in each half from ex-Chippenham Town striker David Pratt, who six years ago became infamous after he was sent off in three seconds at Bashley.

City took the lead three minutes before the break when Watkins laid the ball back for Ben Adlesbury and his searching cross from the left was heading goalwards by Chas Hemmings. Keeper Nick Hutchings was down quickly to block but Pratt quickly steamed in to force over the line.

The visitors grabbed the all-important second goal midway through the second half as a result of a foul on Hemmings close to the dead-ball line.

Ashley Kington’s delivery from the right was only half-cleared and Pratt was perfectly-positioned to drive a powerful first-time shot straight into the net.

Poole are next in action on Saturday when they entertain Histon in the Southern Premier. Dolphins are yet to suffer defeat in the league this season while Histon are second-bottom with just six points in 10 games.

Dolphins: Hutchings, Tallack (Munday, 70), Emmerson, Walker, Whisken, Pettefer (Preston, 66), Burbidge, Devlin, O’Hanlon, Gosney, Brooks. Subs not used: Manley, Jermyn, Martin, Lindsey, Lowes.

  • Lymington Town surrendered a second-half lead as they suffered a 2-1 reverse at Bemerton Heath Harlequins in the Wessex Premier.

James Davis put the visitors ahead but a Dan Metz penalty and a Matt Palmer effort in the dying seconds won the game for Bemerton.

  • Tokelo Rantie scored four times as Cherries claimed their maiden Final Third Development League win.

The South African striker, building up his fitness ahead of a potential return to the first team squad, was in flying form as Cherries destroyed visitors Peterborough United 7-1.

Ben Whitfield (2) and Harrison Gilkes were also on target in the emphatic victory.
