FURIOUS Poppies boss Ken Vaughan felt a controversial call by referee Steve Barclay had cost his side a share of the derby day spoils against Hamworthy.

Teen sensation Alex Martin’s second-half strike ensured struggling Bournemouth’s winless streak was extended to five matches at Victoria Park.

With the score at 0-0, the game’s big talking point came on the hour when Poppies' top-scorer Martin Warren was impeded by United defender Dan Haysom.

Vaughan was adamant the infringement had denied his side a goal scoring chance but Barclay, who gave the foul, failed to brandish a card.

And the incident was compounded moments later when Lee Diaper found space on the right and drilled in a ball for Martin to earn Hammers a smash-and-grab victory.

The Poppies manager told the Daily Echo: “Their player was the last man, it was as blatant as blatant could be. The referee has not even booked him and I found that completely disrespectful.

“When you are in our position, you just never get any luck but at the end of the day their lad has taken the goal well and if you don’t take your chances you don’t win games.”

Hamworthy counterpart Graham Kemp disagreed with Vaughan’s assessment of the incident but went on to admit his side had been fortunate to secure the spoils from a tight contest.

“Our keeper had already cleared the ball so there was no way Martin Warren was going to get it,” said Kemp.

“If our centre-half steps across him then that happens all over the park and I can’t see that being a red card.”

On the match, Kemp added: “I had my mask on I think, it was a bit of a robbery. At times it is better to be a lucky manager than a good manager and I was certainly lucky today.

“Up until half-time, they dominated but didn’t force our keeper to make a save, although he has made four good stops in the second half to keep us in it.

“I sensed the game was turning, we suddenly had a bit of impetus about us. We probably only had two or three chances all game and Alex has finished one of those well so we will take it.”

Kemp’s men finished the game with 10 men after skipper Aaron Corby picked up a second yellow card four minutes from time.
