Non-league: Killick ups the ante on Poole promotion
BOSS Tom Killick insists his charges will not settle for a Southern League play-off berth.
Killick, whose side host Redditch United in the Calor League Premier Division tomorrow (3pm), sit in fifth place, but with three games in hand on leaders Hemel Hempstead.
And despite admitting that his aim prior to the season was to secure a play-of place, the Dolphins chief believes his side still have a shot at automatic promotion to the Conference South.
Killick told the Echo: “Our aim at the start of the season was to make the play-offs. Once you get into the play-off positions, it’s only natural that you want to aim higher.
“Hemel Hempstead and Chesham are both good teams so it will be difficult to finish above them but everyone knows the play-offs are a lottery and the best way to go up is the one automatic promotion spot.”
Killick, who warned his side against complacency, will be without experienced trio Carl Pettefer (thigh), Marvin Brooks (facial wound) and Keith Emmerson for the visit of the West Midlanders, who come into the clash on the back of a 4-1 defeat at Cambridge City in midweek.
Killick added: “Sometimes, one of the biggest mistakes in football is becoming over confident. The players must not lose sight of the effort they’ve had to put into each match in order to get us to the position we’re in.
“If you drop your effort rate even slightly, results can go against you.”
