JUBILANT boss Graham Kemp hailed the “buzzing” atmosphere at Hamworthy United as the primary cause for Wednesday’s 4-1 giant-killing of Dorchester Town.

Despite shipping a second-minute strike to the Conference South outfit, Hammers hit back with braces from Russell Cook and Dominic Allen to shock Phil Simkin’s side, which featured a smattering of youngsters.

And after securing back-to-back wins in his opening two County Ground fixtures, recently-appointed Kemp lauded the upbeat attitude of his new charges.

On the victory that handed his side a semi-final berth in the Dorset Senior Cup, Kemp told the Daily Echo: “The credit must go to the players because they have applied themselves very well and the atmosphere is buzzing around the place at the moment.

“To reach a semi-final is great for everyone involved. Dorchester started well but we played at a really good tempo and once we settled, we could have scored two or three more.”

Hammers joined Gillingham Town – who won 2-0 at Verwood Town on Wednesday – alongside Poole Town and Weymouth in the last four with Kemp keen to avoid the big guns.

“Gillingham at home would be the best draw for us followed by Poole Town in the final for a right knees-up,” he added.

In tomorrow’s Wessex League action, Hamworthy host Fareham Town while Verwood entertain Whitchurch United.

Bournemouth Poppies have a home match with Lymington Town while Christchurch travel to bottom club Romsey Town.

In Wessex One, New Milton Town make the trip to Andover New Street while Ringwood Town welcome basement boys Hayling United to the Canotec (all 3pm).
