Dorset Premier League: Merley make point to overtake Portland at top
A POINT proved enough to send Merley Cobham Sports to the Dorset Premier League summit as they twice battled back from behind to draw 2-2 with Wareham Rangers.
Garry Bartlett slammed home a loose ball for Rangers but Simon Dyer fired in a swift leveller.
Bartlett then bagged his second on the hour mark but Grant Cormack stepped up five minutes from time to secure a share of the spoils and top spot for the hosts.
Hamworthy Recreation returned to winning ways with a 3-0 success over Weymouth reserves, but the match was marred by a double sending-off after the first goal.
Joe Wood, who bagged the 34th-minute opener at Magna Road, got involved in a skirmish with Weymouth keeper Jordan Tewkesbury which saw both players dismissed.
Richard Sand netted a crucial second for Rec straight after the restart before Max Wilcock rounded off the scoring 12 minutes from time.
A 26th-minute strike from Tim Matthews was enough to see Holt United remain rooted to the foot of the table as Mike Rees’s men lost 1-0 to Shaftesbury Town.
Damian Gill’s strike two minutes from time rescued a point for Cranborne in their 3-3 draw with Sherborne Town reserves. Luke Burnell and Dan Loader got the other goals.
Elsewhere, Parley Sports won for only the second time this season when they comfortably defeated Poole Borough 3-1.
Michael Laronde and James Bailey-Pearce scored early on before Matthew Newbery wrapped up the points nine minutes after half-time. Edgar Zanin struck a consolation for Borough with 16 minutes to play.
Luke Crane scored for Blandford United as they played out a 1-1 draw with Tintinhull.
