FA Trophy: Devlin devastates Darren as Poole plunder replay
BOSS Tom Killick was relieved Poole finally found a way past Frome goalkeeper Darren Chitty - even if he felt his side should have won handsomely.
Steve Devlin eventually won his personal battle with the experienced Robins custodian, securing a 1-1 draw and an FA Trophy replay from the spot with 11 minutes to play after Chitty had earlier saved his penalty.
Poole had possession without punch during the first half and were made to pay when Will Agbo scored seconds before the interval.
The visitors came out with more purpose after the break and were handed a lifeline when former Tatnam favourite Rhys Baggridge was sent-off for hauling back Carl Preston in the penalty area.
However, Chitty saved from Devlin before somehow punching away a fizzing free kick from the Dolphins dynamo as Poole peppered the Frome goal.
But Killick's men were not to be denied and the midfield talisman slammed home from 12 yards after Will Spetch had been upended to leave the Tatnam boss in a mixed mood.
Killick told the Daily Echo: “Their keeper was inspired and definitely the stand-out player. Some of his saves were top drawer but, while we were relieved to have pegged it back, we should have won the match.
“After the first penalty, he (Chitty) pulled off save after save and it started to feel like one of those afternoons. But Devs in particular deserves some credit because he had the fortitude to take and score the second penalty.
“We were probably a bit complacent and lost our focus during the first half. We were not as incisive as we should have been.
“I was pleased with the way we played after that, though, because we showed much more urgency and, after the red card, we were camped in their half.
“It was disappointing to dominate and not get through, but they have to come to us in midweek and, having played them earlier in the season, I believe we should be okay if we play near to our best.”
Dolphins: Hutchings, Clarke, Spetch, Cummings (Byerley, 62), Whisken, Pettefer, Brooks, Devlin, Davies, Preston, Cann. Unused subs: Dibba, Elliott, Oliver, Thomas (g/k).
Elsewhere, Bashley's brave performance was not enough to halt their slide as they exited the FA Trophy with a 4-2 defeat at Hungerford.
Jack Satterley grabbed a goal back after Bash had gone three down, but Hungerford scored again before a comical own goal from Town's Ryan Crockford reduced the arrears. Bashley's Tim Stephenson saw red for a second booking in the dying stages.
Bash: Collins, Stephenson, Flint, Strickland (Morris, h-t), Middleton, Colson, Casey, Richardson (Roberts, 62), Satterley, Odam, Boultwood (Blackmore, 61). Unused subs: Brookes, Farren.
